Wyatt Knutson (b. 2004) is a double bassist, composer, and conductor from Chesapeake, Virginia. As a bassist, Wyatt has played in masterclasses for Hal Robinson, Kristen Bruya, and Tim Pitts. Before conservatory training, he attended the Virginia Governor's School for the Arts. Here, he studied with Will McPeters, and served as the principal bassist for two years. During this time, Wyatt also played in the Bay Youth Symphony Orchestra and the New England Music Camp (where he studied with Laura Ruas). Wyatt specializes in modern music, having performed music by Sofia Gubaidulina, György Ligeti, Elliott Carter, Anton Webern, and himself. As a composer, Wyatt has received instruction from Nico Muhly, Claude Baker, Marilyn Schrude, Curtis Stewart, and Margaret Brouwer. His work draws from a wide range of musical influences, including spectralism, polystylism, and rock music. His music has been performed by members of the Governor's School for the Arts and Cleveland Institute of Music.
Wyatt is currently an undergraduate student at the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying under Scott Dixon (double bass) and Keith Fitch (composition).
